Experiments with new 50mm f/1.8 lens

I wanted to do a BIG shout out and say thanks to Keeley_Keena for her help and feedback about camera lens. I went looking at what was out there. It was a hard decision but I decided on the Canon 50mm f/1.8 lens. Here are some preliminary pics with the new lens. I think I will be able to do the closeups and still be able to step back and do full body shots as well. The Macro lens is still on the want list - but this lens is more versatile for the moment.

This is my favorite type of framing for a dolls face - I like closeups. I noticed I prefer the horizontal framing too.

They are all really lovely shots of such beautiful girls. It is interesting to see wide angle head shots . . . but it works!! Nice job. I really like the way you captured the light on Cyn in particular.

Glad to hear you are enjoying your new lens. The 5omm is always a good versatile lens to have. I too have a macro lens on my wishlist. Most of my shots are three/quarter shots and I'd like to mix is up with closeups, but haven't gotten what I want from my lenses yet. I need to practice more I think.

I look forward to seeing more of your beuatiful photos of your resin family.

PS - check out the new Haute Doll magazine Val Zeitler Bitten Collection that should be out SOON, and their website. There's some really awesome pieces in the collection. :)

I really was in experiment mode. What I noticed is I had limited experience with a fixed lens. The first set of pics I took - I was having trouble with getting the autofocus to be focused on where I wanted it to focus. I also did not realize how nice some of the 3/4 shots would come out when shooting with a higher f stop. I liked the colors and sharpness of Zoe's pics.

Cyn's pics were taken in Manual focus. It was the only way to get the focus on that one eye. Thanks for noticing!!
Will keep an eye out for the Val Zeilter collection. I saw the cover -- I am excited for you - you took the pictures of the collection! Wahoo!!

That's all I've ever shot is fixed lenses. Wait . . . I did buy a zoom lens back around Xmas time but haven't worked with yet . . . can you believe it? I think I need to experiment more . . . but am feeling in a rut and stressed alot. LOL! Just one of those things.

Yes, it was fun taking the photos for the collection . . . :D

I had used a fixed lens when I got my first SLR way back when... but all the lens I have had with the Rebel have always been zooms. I did some reading on this -- about 10 to 15 years ago - the industry started pushing the zooms. There is a whole generation out there with very limited experience with fixed lens. I am fascinated by this. It is like I am learning to shoot pictures all over again!! I find that exciting!
